Lost Windows

A cylinder of light hangs above
The party of fifty candle
Wicks, flickering bright shadows
On the faces of lost
Windows, tracing the
Distance between
Your faintest
Glance and
Mine.

This one took me longer to name than to actually write.  I came up with it at a work event a few days ago and got it done in about an hour, more or less.  For anyone who cares, this type of poem is called a nonnet, where the first line has nine syllables, the second has eight, and so on till the end.  I didn’t give it meter, though — I wanted to see if I could write this poem all in one sentence.

If you’ve read any of the other posts on this blog, you might have realized that I’m quite interested in different traditional and even recent forms for poetry (and double dactyls — I really like double dactyls).  So, when I knew I’d have to spend an hour or two sitting and doing nothing, I picked a form at random that I had never heard of from Wikipedia’s extensive-ish list and tried to write in it.  And, you know, I kinda like how this one turned out.  Except for the title.  I still wish it had a better title.
